Bob Farese, M.D.

Dr. Farese currently serves as Director of the CFR Basic Research Program, providing leadership and guidance on CFR research priorities. In addition, his lab developed a progranulin-deficient mouse as a model of frontotemporal dementia that is used by widely across the consortium. Dr. Farese’s group’s latest research efforts are focused on understanding the basic cell biology of progranulin. He is also an internationally recognized expert on lipid and energy metabolism.

Dr. Farese is Professor of Genetics and Complex Diseases at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, MA. Dr. Farese obtained his M.D. from Vanderbilt University, completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Colorado Affiliated Hospitals, and was previously a Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institutes and Professor of Medicine and of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco.
